XenogearsI enjoyed playing Xenogears more than I did FFVII, or should I say reading? Xenogears features a large and deep story line that may be too much for some gamers. However, it is a pretty d@mn good story.
Xenogears follows Fei Fong Wong as he searches for answers to many questions. Questions about himself, humanity, and religion make up the majority of them. This game features some heavy religious and adult themes. The adult themes are, however, nothing too bad. It's just the suggestion that certain characters you know
Xenogears features some great Anime cut-scenes and one or two FMV cut-scenes for the gears. This music is also really good, I was even considering buying the soundtrack.
Xenogears shines best in its combat system, which you had better get used to, because in this game, you fight a lot. The characters have special moves called Deathblows. Deathblows are combinations of the attack buttons (the system is slightly similar to a fighting game). These are released whenever you earn them. When the characters are in their gears, a very similar system is used. Seeing as how you spend 24/50 of this game fighting, 25/50 of this game reading text, and 1/50 of this game exploring; it's a good thing the combat system is unique.
The only real problem I had with Xenogears is the lack of side-quests. I wanted to spend more than just 60 hours with these characters!
If Square has been sinning with some slightly crappy to total crap games lately, and they have, Xenogears is their repentance.
